Booking a ride
How do I book a ride?
Tap “Where to?” on the home screen and enter your destination. Your pickup is your current location — tap it to change it. Choose a ride option (each shows its price and how soon it can reach you) and confirm. Once a driver accepts you see their name, photo, rating, car and number plate. Give the driver your 4-digit pickup code so the trip can start.
What is the pickup code?
A 4-digit code shown on your ride screen once a driver is on the way. Read it to the driver when you get in — the trip cannot start until they enter it, so you never board the wrong car and no driver can start a trip you're not in. It's on by default and is only skipped if both you and your driver switch “Start PIN” off — we recommend keeping it on.
Which ride options are there?
Mini (Car) for everyday trips, Comfort for roomier cars with engines of 1,500 cc or more, OLLO XL with 6 seats, and Bike or Electric Bike for a boda. For a ride now you see the options with drivers online near you.
Can I add stops or change my destination?
Yes. Add stops with “+” before you confirm and drag them into order. During the trip you can change the destination or any stop still ahead — it applies straight away — or add a new stop, which your driver accepts first. The price is worked out again for the new route.
How do I reserve a ride for later?
Tap the yellow “Later” button next to “Where to?”, enter your destination, pick a date and time from 30 minutes to 30 days ahead, choose a ride and pay by M-Pesa or card. It appears under Trips → Upcoming. Shortly before pickup the app asks you to confirm, then Ollo finds your driver.
Where does Ollo operate?
Nairobi, inside the area shown on the map on our homepage. Pickups and drop-offs outside it can't be booked yet — we'll add new areas as we grow.
Fares, payments & refunds
How is my fare calculated?
A base fare for the ride option plus a rate for every kilometre of the route through all your stops; very short trips pay the minimum fare. At busy times (peak hours, late nights, high demand or heavy rain) an extra may apply — it is already in the price shown before you confirm. Waiting at pickup or at a stop after a few free minutes, and a traffic delay if the trip takes much longer than expected, are added per minute at the end. Your receipt lists every charge. See how fares work.
How can I pay?
Cash to the driver at the end of the trip, M-Pesa (a prompt on your phone), card in the app, or Apple Pay on iPhone. A card issued outside Kenya is added as an International card: the fare is held when you book and only taken when the trip ends. You can change the method any time before the trip ends. Reserved rides are paid when you reserve and can't be paid in cash.
Is there a fee for cancelling?
Ollo doesn't currently charge a fee for cancelling a ride. If you cancel a reserved ride before a driver is assigned, the full amount is refunded.
What if no driver is found for my reserved ride?
You're refunded the full amount you paid.
Where is my receipt?
After every trip the app shows a receipt with each charge on its own line, and you can download it as a PDF invoice.
I was charged wrongly. What do I do?
Open Support → Create New Ticket, pick the ride and describe the problem. Please report payment issues within 7 days of the ride.
Safety
How does Ollo keep me safe?
Every trip starts with a pickup code, you can follow the car live and share the trip with family by WhatsApp or SMS, and the SOS button reaches the Ollo safety team. Before you get in, check the number plate, car and driver photo match the app. More on our safety page.
What happens when I press SOS?
The Ollo safety team is alerted with your live location, driver and trip details, and the emergency contacts you saved under Account → Safety → Emergency contacts are notified. If you've allowed the microphone, the app records the sound around you for the safety team, for up to 5 minutes. In an emergency call 999, 112 or 1199 (ambulance) first.
Why did the app ask if I need help?
If a trip hasn't moved for a long time, the app checks in. Tap “I'm OK” if all is well, or “I need help” to alert the Ollo safety team.
How do I recognise my Ollo?
Ollo drivers use their own cars and bikes and don't wear uniforms. Match the number plate letter for letter, and check the car photo, make, colour and the driver's photo in the app. If anything doesn't match, don't get in — cancel and report it.

Getting started
How does driving with Ollo work?
You go online in the Ollo Driver app, accept the requests you want and get paid for every trip. On cash rides the rider pays you directly and you settle Ollo's commission separately; on M-Pesa, card and Apple Pay rides Ollo collects the fare and pays your share out to you. You choose when and how long you drive.
How do I sign up as a driver?
Register with your phone number and confirm the one-time code. Add your personal details and the selfie the app asks for, then your vehicle — make, model, colour, number plate, seats and photos. Upload your documents with the expiry date on each. The Ollo team reviews your file and you're notified once you're cleared to go online.
Which documents do I need?
National ID, driving licence, PSV badge, certificate of good conduct, KRA PIN certificate, profile photo, vehicle insurance, inspection certificate, logbook, and front and side photos of the vehicle. See the full list with tips.
Can I drive Comfort or OLLO XL?
Comfort needs 4 passenger seats and an engine of 1,500 cc or more, read from your logbook, plus car photos approved by Ollo. OLLO XL needs 6 passenger seats. Cars with 3, 4 or 6 seats can drive Mini (Car).
Earnings & commission
How much of the fare do I keep?
At least 82%. Ollo's commission is never more than 18% — it is set per vehicle type, some types pay less, and it is always rounded down in your favour. The app shows your exact rate. At 18%, you keep KSh 820 of a KSh 1,000 trip. Rider discounts are paid by Ollo.
When is my commission due and how do I pay it?
Commission on cash rides adds up as you drive. Once it reaches KSh 400, cash requests pause until you pay — M-Pesa and card rides keep coming and the commission is taken from those. To pay, open the platform fee screen from the menu (or tap the “Cash rides paused” banner), check the amount, confirm your M-Pesa number and enter your PIN on the prompt.
How do I get my money from M-Pesa and card rides?
Ollo collects those fares and pays your share out to you. Find it under Menu → Wallet: card-ride earnings cash out to M-Pesa or bank, and M-Pesa-ride earnings are sent once Ollo approves. A payout can't be requested while you have commission outstanding.
Is there a welcome bonus for new drivers?
Yes. The first 2,000 drivers approved get a KSh 300 welcome bonus. It shows under Menu → Wallet and is paid to your registered M-Pesa number after Ollo checks it. It can't be withdrawn while you owe commission. Once 2,000 drivers have received it, the offer ends.
How does Refer & Earn work for drivers?
Share your code from Refer & Earn. When a rider joins Ollo with it, you earn a share of the fares of the trips they take for a set period after joining. Inviting other drivers doesn't earn a reward. Withdraw from Menu → Wallet.
On the road
How do I go online and get more requests?
Take your daily selfie, then swipe “Go Online”. Use the demand heat map to wait where riders are booking, drive the morning and evening peaks, and keep your acceptance rate and rating healthy. Keep location on “Allow all the time” and battery optimisation off for Ollo.
Why can't I go online?
The app shows the reason. Usually: today's selfie isn't taken yet, a required document has expired (upload the renewal and wait for approval), your account is under review or suspended, or location/GPS is off.
Why do I need a selfie every day?
It confirms the approved driver is the one driving. The Ollo team compares it with your profile photo by eye. The photo is deleted after 30 days.
How do I start and finish a trip?
Drive to the pickup with in-app navigation — the rider is notified as you get close. When they get in, ask for their 4-digit code and enter it to start. At the destination, end the trip, collect the fare if it's a cash ride and rate the rider. Never start a trip without the code.
What is the waybill?
A digital document in the app for each trip with the trip, driver, vehicle and insurance details. Show it when the rider or an authorised officer asks.
What happens when a document expires?
The app warns you before and after. An expired driving licence, insurance or inspection certificate stops you going online until the renewal is uploaded and approved — renew early, because approval isn't instant.
How do I delete my driver account?
In the Ollo Driver app open Menu → Settings → Delete Account. Can't open the app? Email support@tryollo.com.
